Bunnell Elementary Principal Sends in Letter of Resignation

Wednesday evening at 11:13pm, Bunnell Elementary Principal Donelle Evensen sent in her letter of resignation. The DOE investigation has concluded and shortly after the conclusion of this investigation, Evensen sent in her letter of resignation.

In her letter Evensen talked about her love of Flagler County and all of its students. She states that her passion has always been to meet the needs of every student to insure they are 100% successful in their education.

She went on to state that she was undeserving of her leave that she was placed on and that, “I certainly do not deserve anything less than the position I currently have as Principal of Bunnell Elementary.”

Amid the letter of resignation where she regretted the outcome of this, “unfavorable attention from this situation”, she stated that she still hopes the conversations will be had regarding the achievement levels of certain groups which include African American students and Students with Disabilities.

She went on to continue in her letter of resignation that, “currently throughout Florida and Flagler County only 36% of African American students and 19%(Flagler) 24% (Florida) Students with Disabilities are scoring on grade level.” She continued on in her letter stating, “We MUST find ways to ensure ALL students are successful and that must start by identifying the need and then planning to take action.”

She concluded her resignation letter with statements of a broken heart and a desire to continue working for Flagler County students in whatever ways are possible.
