Domestic Disturbance Leads to Arrest of Palm Coast Man Who Threatened Victim with Handgun

Early in the morning on Saturday, August 10, Deputy Clay responded to a delayed report of a Domestic Disturbance on Pine Grove Drive. The victim stated they had a verbal disagreement that turned physical, two hours before calling Law Enforcement.

The victim reported being struck on the front and side areas of her head and having objects thrown at her while she was on the floor. She also advised the suspect choked her and she was unable to breathe, and that he held a handgun to the side of her head and under her chin two different times. Deputies observed bruises and marks on her face that were consistent with being struck in the face.

The suspect, identified as Brant Harp, 58, of Palm Coast, left the residence in a vehicle before the arrival of deputies.  Deputies located Harp a short time later, and he was taken into custody. He surrendered his firearms for safekeeping.

Harp was arrested for Domestic Battery, Domestic Strangulation – Aggravated, and Domestic Aggravated Assault. He has posted a $13,500.00 bond and was released from the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.  Harp has a prior history of a Domestic Violence Injunction in 2014.

“We had five domestic disturbance calls over the weekend,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “But people need to remember to control their anger and actions. Rage will only lead you to the Green Roof Inn, especially if there’s a gun involved. I want to thank our deputies for potentially saving a life each time they get involved in situations like these.”

Bunnell Woman Arrested after Shoplifting at Target For a Second Time

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, August 9, deputies responded to a shoplifting incident at Target in Palm Coast. The store’s Loss Prevention Officer reported the subject was observed ripping price tags off certain clothing items and replacing them with cheaper tags, then removing a price tag from a pencil box and putting it over a Lego set, along with placing other items in her cart.

She then went to the self-checkout and only scanned five of the 12 items she had in her cart. The five items totaled $19.50 when the correct total should have been $268.48. She then proceeded to leave the store without paying for the rest of the items.

At this point, the Loss Prevention Officer stopped her and escorted her to the office where she was identified as Carla Nishikura, 39, of Bunnell. This was not the first time she had shoplifted from Target, as she was caught stealing from them in December 2023, but they did not pursue charges. Nishikura is currently on 12-month probation for petit theft shoplifting from September 2023.

Nishikura was arrested for Shoplifting – Petit Theft, Scheme to Defraud Under $749 – Welfare Fraud, and Violation of Probation/Community Control (VOP/VOCC) – Felony. She is being held on a $3000 bond at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.

“She likes 5-finger discounts and doesn’t want to pay for items like the rest of us must do,” said Sheriff Staly. “We won’t allow shoplifting in Flagler County, so hopefully she is learning her lesson while spending time in the Green Roof Inn.”

Pomona Park Man Arrested After Admitting to Possession, Suspended License for DUI Since 2011

On Friday, August 9, around 10:30 p.m., deputies responded to a crash on SR 100 East and Bulldog Drive. One of the drivers involved, Jason Crosby, 41, of Pomona Park, stated that he did not have a valid driver’s license. Deputies confirmed it had been suspended since October 2011 for DUI.

During the crash investigation, a hypodermic needle with approximately 43 milliliters of an unknown clear liquid substance inside, was seen in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard. After being read his Miranda Rights, Crosby stated the needle contained methamphetamine and that there was a stem pipe (commonly used for smoking narcotics) inside the vehicle as well. The clear liquid later tested positive for methamphetamine. Another hypodermic needle was also found under the driver’s seat.

Crosby was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) with Knowledge. He posted a $3,250.00 bond and was released from the Green Roof Inn.
