Flagler Sheriff officially annouced the launch of its newest public safety initiative; a ” Real Time Crime Center in the Cloud”. This is a platform that will have a camera registry, an online portal for citizens to register their security cameras, which will help solve crimes. The Sheriff hopes residents will register their systems so we can help create a community wide public safety ecosystem.
This is a 100% voluntary registery, but if citizens register their cameras, it will help eliminate door to door investigation and allows deputies to use their time elsewhere. It also saves time, because deputies will be able to see who to contact to obtain video footage of a crime. Commercial property owners are also encouraged to register their security cameras. Registrant information and any video files provided will be kept confidential and only used in the event of a criminal investigation or emergency incident.
When you register a security system, you are not giving the Sheriff live video access to your cameras. It only tells the Sheriff the location of cameras, so that when an incident occurs they know who to contact to retrieve video evidence from. it is a way for the FCSO to hasten the evidence gathering.
“Continuing to build a real partnership between our residents and businesses and our Sheriff’s Office is the key to a successful public safety strategy,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “This new platform will enable us to operate more efficiently to create a safer community for our residents and replaces our prior Silent Guardian program. I strongly urge all the security camera owners in the community to take part in this fantastic new program and let’s take a bite out of crime together on the ground and in the cloud!”
There is an option to allow the FCSO to share live feeds with residents and businesses. You can opt to allow this by having a small CORE device installed on the network. This allows a resident or business to share live feeds with the FCSO during an emergency. The live feeds can only be shared on alert, by using a smart phone or a manual trigger at the owners discretion. You can request this upgrade during the registration process online. FCSO will NOT monitor your live feed with this option, you must trigger that with your app, or a manual button. There are no extra security expectations from FCSO for this upgrade, it is solely used when you manually trigger it.
