This last weekend the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office handled 863 calls, made 154 traffic stops and made 22 arrests. Below is a summary of arrests over the weekend.
“Several people thought they could run from FCSO this weekend,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Instead, they booked a one-way ticket to the Green Roof Inn for the weekend! Our deputies apprehended a business burglar and thief quickly after he walked into a store and took their entire register. Thanks to the alert citizens that described the suspect and his getaway car, we were able to StopStick him, recover all the stolen property, and take him to jail.”
Friday, March 31st FCSO responded to a commercial burglary at Savage Smoke Shop. The reporting party said a black man with dreads, stole cash from the register in the store and fled in a silver Dodge vehicle. The vehicle crashed into another car before they even left the parking lot.
Deputy First Class Prevatt was able to locate the vehicle as it was traveling south on US-1. Deputy Beausoleil was able to use his Stop Stick on the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody without issue. The driver was identified as Jaquavis Clayton and the stolen cash was found in the vehicle. Clayton has been arrested and charged with Burglary of a Structure, Grand Theft, Leaving the Scene of a Crash. He is being held on a $33,750 bond.
Saturday the FCSO received multiple calls about a reckless driver on A1A Deputy Wilkinson clocked the driver headed south on A1A at 91 MPH. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued to speed and pass other vehicles. Deputy Wilkinson stopped pursuit and notified the Flagler Beach Police Department. The driver and the car continued south passing by Flagler Beach Officer who also attempted to stop the car to no avail. The driver continued his reckless driving south on A1A where he ended up crashing into to two other vehicles causing 3 vehicle crash in front of the Flagler Beach Pier. The driver was injured and FHP was notified so they could conduct the investigation. The driver was identified as Andrew Mintz, and was taken to a local hospital. Charges are pending.
Sunday, Deputy Fowler saw a blue dirt bike headed north on US-1 without tags. he attempted to stop the bike, but the bike sped off> Deputy Fowler did not continue the pursuit due to the high rate of speed. Deputy Fowler was flagged down by a citizen who saw the bike head south on Belle Terre. Another citizen gave Deputy Schmidt an address for the home of what they believed to be the culprit. Deputies made contact with Erick Javier Guzman-Samiento at the address that was provided to deputies. They were able to identify the dirt bike at the address as the bike that fled from officers. Guzman-Sarmiento was arrested and charged with Fleeing/Eluding with Lights and Siren, Reckless Driving, Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle, and No Florida Driver’s License. He was released after posting the $3,400 bond.
