This year in Daytona at the Daytona Memorial Park, Sheriff Staly spoke as the guest speaker for the Volusia/Flagler Memorial. FCSO Chief David Williams also gave a speech, prayer and benediction for the fallen law enforcement officers who died while serving both Volusia and Flagler County.
Multiple key speakers and salutes, musical ensembles and a rifle salute were done in honor of the fallen officers.
“The men and women who protect our communities each and every day have not just devoted their lives to public service, they’ve taken an oath to give up their lives to ensure our safety,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This past year 246 extraordinary law enforcement officers answered such a call and sadly lost their life while serving their communities across the United States. When faced with danger, these men and women ran toward danger instead of away from it. 10 of those fallen heroes in 2022 were from Florida.”
Below, you can see the officers and K-9’s who died while serving, listed below.

In the year 1960, President Kennedy declared that May 15th was National Peace Officers Memorial Day, which falls in what has been dubbed National Police Week. This week which was adopted by Congress in 1962, pays special recognition to law enforcement who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
