March 17th – 19th the Flagler County Sheriff’s Explorers were able to attend the Florida Sheriff’s Explorers Association Spring State Delegates which was hosted by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. FCSO Explorers competed against Explorers from other counties, took training classes and did some networking activities.

Friday, March 17th, Explorers competed in firearms and physical abilities competitions. Explorer Arjay Shaw won 1st place in the Marksman Division. He is in the running for the Top Shooter Award which will be awarded at the Summer State Delegates which is in June of this year.

Saturday, March 18th, Explorers were able to do some training classes which included low light building clearing, defense tactics, hostage negotiating, and tourniquet application training.

FCSO Deputy First Class Nicholas Champion was also appointed chair of the FSEA Training Committee.

The FCSO Sheriff’s Explorer program was established in 1986, and the purpose is to expose 14-18 year old students to the possibilities of careers in law enforcement. Additionally, students who graduate the FCSO Explorer program and wish to become a Flagler County Deputy, receive a scholarship from FCSO to go to the police academy.
