On Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., an unidentified individual contacted FCSO Communications to report that he had set off a number of bombs on the Matanzas High School campus.
Together with the MHS school security team, FCSO deputies, including Explosive Ordinance Detection (EOD) K-9 Nitro, arrived at the school and initiated a sweep. At 11:10 a.m., the all-clear was issued.
Despite the fact that today’s call did not originate from the same phone number, the caller’s voice and other similarities lead some to believe they are the same person who made the previous bomb threat against MHS.
“Threats of these nature are not only scary for students and their families, but they also disrupt the learning of our youth and are dangerous to first responders and the public when driving to a false emergency,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “We will do everything we can to identify the person behind these threats as we continue the investigation.”
