The City of Flagler Beach will hold the 2026 Ocean Cardboard Regatta, a free community event on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026.
Anyone can enter the competition by creating a boat made from corrugated cardboard and racing it on the shores of Flagler Beach. The event will be held on the beach in front of Veterans Park.
The event will kick off with check-in at 12 a.m. and a team safety meeting will be held at 12:30 a.m. Racing will begin at 1 p.m. in separate age groups. Teams of two will have to propel their cardboard creations from the beach, around two buoys offshore and back to the beach again while crossing between the checkered flags, all while maintaining contact with their boat at the finish.
Teams can create their boats using any materials they’d like as long as it’s corrugated cardboard, duct tape, caulk, glue, latex paint or varnish. The city encourages participants to get creative and says spectators are welcome to root for racers on the beach as they test the engineering, teamwork and surf skills.
There will be three age divisions: Youth (12 and under), Open (13-39) and Masters (40 and up).
The city says the event is a great opportunity for families, friends and community members to come together for an afternoon of creativity, friendly competition and community pride.
