The Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center, The Fitz, has a new director as it opens its 35th season. Craig B. Uppercue joined Flagler Schools on July 8 as the director of the Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center and K-12 Visual and Performing Arts.
Uppercue replaces longtime Flagler Schools employee Amelia Fulmer, who retired after close to 40 years with the school district. “I am honored to join Flagler Schools and lead the Fitz,” Uppercue stated. “I look forward to building on Amelia Fulmer’s legacy while continuing to strengthen arts education and community partnerships throughout Flagler County. I’m truly excited to have the opportunity to support the students, faculty and staff of Flagler Schools.”
Uppercue most recently served as the district fine arts specialist for Volusia County Schools, overseeing all of the county’s visual and performing arts programs. He was artistic director of the historic Athens Theatre in DeLand and serves as an adjunct faculty member at Stetson University. He has degrees in music, educational leadership, and curriculum and instruction and is completing his Doctor of Education at Liberty University.
Uppercue steps into his position as The Fitz continues its 35th year of bringing professional entertainment to Flagler County and unveils its 2026-2027 season. The theater’s 21-performance season is highlighted by 80’s Night with The American Sirens & Heart Throb, Rita Rudner, The Kenny Rogers Band featuring Don Gatlin, Michael Cavanaugh: The Music of Billy Joel & Elton John, and Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock and Roll. “I think the one thing that’s neat about this year is getting to meet the community,” Uppercue remarked. “The Fitz is more than a stage. It is a place where our community gathers and where students have the opportunity to experience the arts. I’m excited about the season ahead and getting to know the people who have supported this theater for so many years.”
The Fitz is located on the campus of Flagler Palm Coast High School. It brings professional live entertainment to the community while supporting Flagler Schools and promoting arts education for local students.
