The 2024 Fallen Officers Memorial paid tribute to six Flagler County deputies and officers who had fallen in the line of duty. Those honored included Sheriff Perry Hall (End of Watch: August 21, 1927), Deputy George Durrance (End of Watch: August 25, 1927), Deputy Charles Sease (End of Watch: July 5, 2003), Sgt. Francesco Celico (End of Watch: September 9, 2011), Sheriff Homer Brooks (End of Watch: March 23, 1965), and Deputy First Class Paul Luciano (End of Watch: August 26, 2021).
Sheriff Rick Staly commenced the ceremony by expressing gratitude to the attendees for commemorating the fallen heroes and their families. He shared his personal appreciation for their sacrifices, reflecting on his own survival of a line of duty shooting. Sadly, he acknowledged the ongoing loss of officers nationwide, emphasizing the cyclical nature of history.
After Sheriff Staly’s address, the fallen deputies and officers were individually recognized, with some of their family members present. Attendees then illuminated candles during a slideshow tribute to the fallen.
The ceremony concluded with musical performances by the Coastal Florida Police & Fire Pipes & Drums. Sheriff Staly invited attendees to remain for refreshments and to explore a small museum within the FCSO building.
Among those present were notable figures such as United States Attorney Roger Hanberg, Special Agent in Charge Kristin Rieler from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Flagler County Commissioner Andy Dance, Flagler County Commissioner Greg Hanson, Flagler County Commissioner David Sullivan, Flagler County Commissioner Donald O ‘Brien, Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin. Council Member Nick Klufas, City Manager Lauren Johnston, Chief of the Palm Coast Fire Department Chief Berryhill, Flagler Beach City Manager Dale Martin, Flagler Beach Police Chief Matthew Doughney, City of Bunnell Chief David Brannon, Candidate for State Representative District 19 Darrell Boyer, and Florida State Senator Tom Wright.
