Fleeing Driver Located Hiding Behind Residence

Early Sunday morning, deputies responded to the area of Haw Creek Preserve after FCSO Communications received an anonymous tip about a large party in the area. While in the area of County Road 305 and County Road 2006, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Trailblazer after it was observed speeding. The vehicle fled at an even higher rate of speed and deputies discontinued pursuit of the vehicle but followed behind at a safe distance through the Mondex.

The vehicle traveled to a residence on Walnut Avenue where one of the registered owners, 19-year-old Cassandra Wilkes, was known to frequent. The Trailblazer was located behind the residence unoccupied. Deputies established a perimeter and began to search the nearby woods for the occupants of the vehicle.

Deputies located Cassandra Wilkes on a path in the woods who said she was the driver of the vehicle. Following a search of the vehicle, deputies located narcotics and alcohol belonging to Wilkes. Wilkes was arrested for Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement – High Speed, Possession of Hashish, Possession of Alcohol Under 21, and Resisting an Officer Without Violence. Wilkes was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and later released after posting $7,000 bond.
