Flagler County Land Management is hosting the final “Walk in the Park” of the season on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, at the Graham Swamp Conservation Area, located at 5140 Colbert Lane in Palm Coast. The free guided nature hike is limited to 12 participants, and registration closes March 24.

About Graham Swamp

Graham Swamp is a more than 3,000-acre conservation area that Natural Resource Specialist Ralph Risch describes as one of the last intact areas of Atlantic coastal swamp forest remaining in Florida. “On its eastern edge it holds an equally rare local sandhill habitat remnant,” Risch said. “Our walk will focus on experiencing the broad variety of plants and animals found in these increasingly rare habitats. Wintering and migrant songbirds will be of particular prominence, so bring a pair of binoculars. Also, some unusual plants will take center stage, the first blush of spring wildflowers.”

What to Expect

The hike is described as “easy” and takes place on wide, well-maintained trails. It is approximately two hours long, though participants should be prepared for some areas of uneven ground. Risch will serve as the guide for the walk.

Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and to bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and weather-appropriate gear including a hat and rain jacket if needed.

How to Register

The walk begins at 9 a.m. sharp, but participants are asked to arrive by 8:45 a.m. at the park’s northeast trailhead — located 1/5 of a mile north of Lakeview Drive at 5140 Colbert Lane — for a safety briefing. To participate, an account must be created through the county’s registration portal, and two waivers must be signed: one for liability and one for photo and video release. Registration is open through March 24 at flaglercounty.gov.
