Residents hoping to access the River-to-Sea Preserve will need to find alternate plans a bit longer, as Flagler County officials announced the main parking lot will remain temporarily closed through the end of March to accommodate ongoing emergency dune restoration work.
The preserve’s parking area is serving as the primary access point for the project. Officials had initially expected the work to relocate farther north to Washington Oaks Gardens State Park around mid-March, but the contractor has adjusted the plan and will now remain at the River-to-Sea Preserve for the remaining duration of the project.
“Our contractor has adjusted his plan and will no longer relocate to Washington Oaks Gardens State Park,” said County Engineer Hamid Tabbasian. “The current plan is to stay at River-to-Sea for the remaining duration of work, which should be ongoing until the end of March.”
Officials are asking residents and visitors to use caution around the construction equipment and sand delivery trucks operating in the area.
