Flagler Schools has been named an “A” graded school district by the Florida Department of Education, marking the first time the district has achieved the top rating since 2019. The announcement comes on the heels of the district’s recently reported gains across every subject area and adds Flagler to a group of five districts statewide that improved from a “B” to an “A” in the 2025-2026 school year. According to the FLDOE results, 76 percent of Flagler schools earned either an “A” or a “B” grade this year, up from 71 percent in the 2024-2025 school year. Additionally, 60 percent of all schools in the district either improved their grade from the prior year or maintained an existing “A.”
The district’s results mirror a broader trend of improvement across Florida. Statewide, 76 percent of all schools — totaling 2,614 — earned an “A” or “B” in 2025-2026, compared to 71 percent the year before. The number of schools earning a “D” or “F” dropped significantly, falling from 70 schools in 2025 to just 31 in 2026. Charter schools performed slightly higher overall, with 78 percent earning an “A” or “B” compared to 76 percent of traditional public schools, and 61 percent of charter schools earned an “A” — 13 percentage points higher than the 48 percent of non-charter schools that achieved the same. Two additional districts statewide improved from a “C” to a “B.” Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas credited teachers and parents with driving the results. “Florida continues to prove that high expectations, expanded school choice, and strong accountability produce real results for students,” said Kamoutsas. “I want to thank our teachers and parents for the important work they do each day to help students achieve their full potential. These results are worth celebrating, but they also challenge us to continue raising the bar. Together, we will build on this momentum, strengthen student achievement, and ensure even greater success for Florida’s schools in the years ahead.”
