Flagler OARS hosts a supervision skills workshop for mental health and addiction support professionals; lunch provided, space limited
Flagler OARS (Open Arms Recovery Services) will host a comprehensive two-day training on supervising peer-based recovery support services on February 11-12, 2026, at SMA Healthcare in Bunnell.
The free training targets current and aspiring peer supervisors working in mental health and addiction recovery fields. Sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days, with attendance required for the full program.
Training Content
Participants will explore several key concepts, including:
- Integrating peer support in multi-disciplinary teams
- Supporting peer roles in person-centered planning
- Cross-cultural supervision
- Ethics and boundaries
- Self-care and wellness
The program uses interactive sessions, case studies, and practical tools to teach effective supervision skills. The training aims to help supervisors foster supportive, strengths-based environments that promote growth and accountability for peer support staff.
Expert Instructors
Ed Johnson will lead the training. Johnson holds multiple credentials, including licensed professional counselor, licensed addiction counselor supervisor, master addiction counselor, certified clinical supervisor, certified peer support specialist, certified peer supervisor, and ORN consultant.
Sharon Hesseltine, president and CEO of Intentional Development and an ORN advanced implementation specialist, will also serve as a trainer.

The training takes place at SMA Healthcare, 301 Justice Lane, Building G, Bunnell, FL 32110. Lunch is provided both days, but space is limited.

Flagler OARS provides education, support, and peer services to individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder. The organization describes itself as “a recovery harbor for Flagler County.”
Peer support specialists are individuals with lived experience in recovery who provide guidance, mentorship, and support to others facing similar challenges with substance use or mental health conditions. Peer supervisors oversee these specialists, ensuring quality services while maintaining appropriate boundaries and ethical standards.
The training addresses a growing need for qualified supervisors as peer support services expand throughout Florida’s behavioral health system.
