Civil Air Patrol’s Florida Wing announces the establishment of a new cadet squadron in Flagler County.

An informational public meeting is being held Friday, March 29, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Palm Coast Community Center for individuals interested in learning more about the new unit and how they can become involved as volunteers with Civil Air Patrol in the local community.

The Flagler County Cadet Squadron will focus on Civil Air Patrol’s missions for youth leadership development, aerospace education for youth and adults, and volunteer service within the local community.

Acting as a Total Force partner and official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, Civil Air Patrol plays a crucial role in emergency services and homeland security, including search and rescue missions, disaster relief operations, and aerial reconnaissance. The comprehensive cadet program is designed to foster leadership, healthy lifestyles, character development, and aerospace education for youth ages 12 to 21 with no military obligation.

Friday night’s presentations and activities include:

A short presentation of Civil Air Patrol’s history in Flagler County will be given by local author of “Forgotten Fliers and Airfields of Flagler County”, Tom Duncan.

Prospective youth members will interact with Civil Air Patrol cadets from the St. Augustine Composite Squadron for fun leadership activities and a question and answer session about the Cadet Program.

Interested adults, including parents of prospective cadets, will have the opportunity to talk with adult leaders to obtain additional information and insights into Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Program and learn about volunteer opportunities for adults.
