FCSO encourages and urges residents to keep their valuables and vehicles safe this weekend and during the Independence Day celebrations. During holiday festivities your vehicle could potentially become a target for thieves.

The FCSO states that parks and beaches are prime hot spots for what they call “Smash-and-grab” break-ins. The FCSO would like residents to remember to lock their vehicles up, and avoid leaving items that may draw attention to thieves.

The FCSO also recommends, parking in a well lit area, locking your car when you aren’t in it, hiding valuables from sight, and take only what you need for the outing, leaving other valuables at home.

“While you’re enjoying the beaches this weekend and all summer or looking up and watching fireworks, criminals may try to prey on your car looking for any valuables,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Our deputies will be out in full force as we enjoy the weekend and holiday, but you can help by being the Sheriff of your own property and take steps to deter criminals from targeting. A little crime prevention on your part will save you many hassles later.”
