The AAUW Flagler County Branch has chosen five seventh-grade girls from local middle schools to attend a week-long science and technology camp in June 2026, with nearly all costs covered by the organization.
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Flagler County Branch announced on April 10, 2026, that five seventh-grade girls from Flagler County have been selected to attend the AAUW Tech Trek camp in June 2026. The camp focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math — commonly known as STEM — and is designed to encourage middle school girls to explore those fields at an age when research shows their interest in STEM often begins to decline.
The selected students
The five students chosen represent two local middle schools. Michelle Ervin and Kendall Miller attend Indian Trails Middle School and Buddy Taylor Middle School, respectively, and will attend the Tech Trek camp held at Stetson University in DeLand. Karolina Grinde, Isabella Weasley, and Leila Worley — all from Buddy Taylor Middle School — are split between the two camp locations. Karolina Grinde and Isabella Weasley will attend the camp at Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter, while Leila Worley will attend the Stetson University session.
About the camp
Tech Trek is a week-long residential program where campers live on a college campus and take part in hands-on problem-solving workshops led by women who work in STEM fields. The AAUW says the program is designed to make science and technology feel exciting and reachable for girls in middle school — a stage when studies show girls’ participation in STEM drops noticeably compared to earlier grades.
Since the Flagler County Branch launched its participation in the program in 2013, a total of 63 local middle school girls have been selected to attend AAUW Florida Tech Trek camps.
Costs and how to donate
The full cost to send each student to camp is $1,500, which is covered entirely by the AAUW Flagler County Branch. Families are only responsible for a $50 registration fee. The branch relies on individual and community donations to fund future scholarships for the program.
Those wishing to donate can mail a check made out to AAUW Flagler (Tech Trek) to PO Box 354873, Palm Coast, FL 32135-4873. Online donations can be made through the organization’s secure payment portal at flaglercounty-fl.aauw.net.
