Nearly 200 local young athletes participated in the City of Palm Coast’s annual NCCAA Sports Clinics on Saturday, March 28, continuing an 18-year tradition that brings college athletes and community youth together for a day of sports instruction and fun.

The Event

The clinics were held at James F. Holland Park and the practice facilities at nearby Palm Harbor Golf Club. This year’s lineup of sports included baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and golf — all taught by student-athletes from Trinity College in Jacksonville, Florida, which partners with the National Christian College Athletic Association. Attendees were treated to lunch sponsored by Chick-fil-A Palm Coast, and “Shelly” the Turtle — mascot of the Daytona Tortugas Minor League Baseball team — made a special appearance and handed out free tickets to an upcoming home game.

City of Palm Coast Parks and Recreation Director James Hirst reflected on the event’s growth and its place in the community calendar. “We are very thankful for the tremendous partnership we have with the NCCAA, and their continuous efforts to making these sports clinics a memorable experience for the kids in our community,” Hirst said. “We’ve seen this event grow and it’s become a Springtime tradition that we look forward to each year.”
