A Pomona Park woman who worked as a home health aide has been sentenced to probation after pleading no contest to stealing from elderly clients and using their personal information fraudulently.

On Wednesday, Katie Swain, 32, entered a no-contest plea to two counts of grand theft between $300 and $10,000 from a person 65 or older, two counts of fraudulent use of personal identification, and one count of fraudulent use of a credit card greater than $100.

The circuit court sentenced Swain to three years of probation. As special conditions of that probation, she is prohibited from working unsupervised with elderly or disabled adults and must pay $236 in restitution to her victims.

Sheriff Rick Staly commented on the outcome. “Swain abused her position of trust and authority and rightfully cannot be placed in that position for several years,” Staly said. “We hope she uses this time to reflect on her life choices and avoids returning to the Green Roof Inn in the future. I commend our detectives who investigated this case and the prosecutor for successfully holding this individual accountable for preying on our seniors.”
