Old Salt Park closes Thursday, while Jungle Hut Park partially reopens Friday

Beach access will shift between two county parks this week as emergency dune restoration work continues along the coast.

Old Salt Park will close beginning Thursday, October 30, as it becomes the main access point for restoration equipment and workers. Meanwhile, Jungle Hut Park will partially reopen to the public on Friday, October 31.

Jungle Hut Partial Reopening

The northern parking lot and walkover at Jungle Hut Park will open to visitors on Friday. However, work will continue at the park around the emergency access road.

“The contractor will be working to demobilize and remove all equipment from Jungle Hut, which will have its northern parking lot and walkover open to the public on Friday,” said Coastal Engineering Administrator Ansley Wren-Key.

Wren-Key added that the emergency access road at Jungle Hut will remain under construction but is expected to open by November 7.

Project Timeline

The dune restoration work is expected to continue through mid-November. However, the timeline depends on weather conditions and could be delayed by tropical storms.

County officials are working to keep residents informed about beach access changes as the restoration project moves between different locations along the coast.

The emergency dune restoration project aims to rebuild protective sand dunes that help shield the coastline from storms and erosion.
