Flagler Open Arms Recovery Services (Flagler OARS) and Discover & Recover St. Johns County are proud to announce the Second Chance Open, a charity disc golf tournament. taking place Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Moccasin Creek Golf Course in Elkton. This inaugural fundraising event will support recovery services for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder throughout Flagler and St. Johns counties.

The tournament, presented in partnership with Discover & Recover St. Johns County and St. Augustine Disc Golf Club, embodies the spirit of second chances that drives Flagler OARS’ mission. Check-in begins at 9:00 AM, featuring activities such as cash payouts, closest-to-the-pin challenges, food and drinks, raffles, mystery disc giveaways, and the popular “Ring of Fire” challenge.

“This tournament represents everything we stand for – community, hope, and the belief that everyone deserves a second chance,” said Brock Birtolo, Project Lead. “Whether you’re an experienced disc golfer or just learning the sport, this event is about coming together to support recovery in our community.”

The Second Chance Open offers multiple sponsorship opportunities to local businesses and community partners. Bronze level sponsorship ($250) includes hole signage, digital recognition, and promotional items. Silver level ($500) adds verbal recognition and tournament tickets, while Gold level ($1,000) sponsors receive recovery ally plaques, tee-off table placement, and four tournament tickets. All proceeds from the tournament will directly support Flagler OARS’ and Discover & Recover’s comprehensive recovery services, including peer support groups, one-on-one mentoring, free Narcan distribution, and community education programs. In June 2025 alone, the organization provided support to 361 individuals, distributed 5,496 Narcan doses, and facilitated 20 support groups while participating in 86 community events.

“Recovery is a community effort, and events like this show the power of coming together with purpose,” Birtolo added. “Every throw, every cheer, and every dollar raised helps build our recovery harbor for those who need it most.”

Flagler OARS currently distributes thousands of doses of Narcan monthly and provides recovery support services throughout Flagler and St. Johns counties. The organization remains committed to reducing stigma and making recovery accessible to all community members.
