Deland Man Arrested for Strangulation and False Imprisonment
Late Friday night, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call from a concerned citizen on Reybury Lane in Palm Coast. During the investigation, deputies determined that Edgar Lopez, 26, of Deland, strangled and falsely imprisoned his ex-girlfriend.
According to the victim, Lopez arrived at her home with flowers and asked if he could come inside. Once inside, Lopez refused to leave the residence. When the victim tried to call 911, Lopez grabbed the phone and became physically violent, blocking her escape out the front door. To muffle her screams for help, Lopez then held a towel over the victim’s face. After approximately two hours of being battered and held captive, the victim was able to free herself from Lopez and call 911.
Lopez ran from the scene before deputies arrived. FCSO obtained a warrant for Lopez, who was later arrested in Deland by the Deland Police Department on the warrant for False Imprisonment; Tampering with a Witness, Victim, or Informant; Battery by Strangulation; and Domestic Violence Battery. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was later released on a $10,000 bond.

Jacksonville Man Arrested for Domestic Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Battery
In the early morning hours of Saturday, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Ullian Trail in Palm Coast. Following the investigation, deputies arrested Jamal Gazaleh, 50, of Jacksonville, for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Battery.
During the investigation, deputies determined that Gazaleh had been arguing with his girlfriend over loud music when the argument escalated. According to the victim, Gazaleh punched and choked her before pressing a firearm into her side. As the victim attempted to escape, Gazaleh continued to aim the weapon at her. When the victim tried to call 911, Gazaleh took her phone and verbally threatened to kill her if she made the call.
A witness in the home reported that Gazaleh attempted to fire the weapon at the floor, but it jammed. The same witness also stated Gazaleh was observed restraining the victim’s hands behind her back during the attack.
Deputies were able to safely retrieve the firearm and the victim’s phone and then determined that Ghazaleh had previously been convicted of felony Aggravated Battery and could not legally possess a firearm.
Gazaleh was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon; Domestic Battery; Tampering with a Witness, Victim or Informant; and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $17,500 bond.
“These cases are disturbing examples of how quickly a domestic argument can escalate into life-threatening violence,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Our deputies responded quickly and ensured these abusers were taken to the Green Roof Inn. Domestic abuse has no place in our community, and we will continue to hold abusers accountable.”
Homeless Jacksonville Man Arrested for Attempted Burglary in Palm Coast
In the early morning hours of Sunday, deputies arrested Anthony Tittle, 25, of Jacksonville, for Attempted Burglary at a vacant home on Freemont Court in Palm Coast.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they located Tittle standing on the roof of the garage next to a broken window. Tittle told deputies that he was resting on the roof waiting for his friends to come home so he could tell them about someone else attempting to break in. Tittle also told deputies he was homeless and had traveled from Jacksonville to Palm Coast with a man he had met at a fast-food restaurant.
According to the man who drove him from Jacksonville, Tittle had disclosed that he was going to break into a friend’s house to surprise him. After hearing the statement, the driver decided to contact the FCSO about Tittle’s plan to break into a home. During the investigation, deputies determined that Tittle had used a piece of wood to smash the window.
After contacting the homeowner, deputies confirmed the residence was vacant and the owner did not know Tittle. Deputies arrested Tittle for Attempted Burglary and Criminal Mischief. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $3,650 bond.
