On June 4, deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Bunnell woman for Battery after responding to a domestic disturbance call on County Road 330 E.

Just before the arrest, deputies witnessed Camille Campbell, 58, make verbal threats toward the victim and law enforcement while holding two knives inside the doorway of a camper and then barricading herself inside the home.

Using a vehicle loudspeaker, deputies from the FCSO Crisis Negotiation Team issued multiple commands for Campell to exit the camper, but she remained noncompliant for over an hour. Due to Campbell’s continued refusal to exit the camper and the potential threat toward the victim and law enforcement, deputies used a less lethal weapon to safely de-escalate the situation. Campbell was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

According to the victim, Campbell had been drinking earlier in the afternoon before becoming aggressive, striking a table, throwing an ashtray, and slapping the victim in the head. As the victim attempted to leave the camper, Campbell poked him with a broom and made additional threats.

The victim had initially contacted 9-1-1 while inside the camper with Campell. During the call, the victim informed the dispatcher there was a firearm inside the home.  Campbell continued making threats while the victim was on the call with 9-1-1 operators. The dispatcher instructed the victim to exit the camper and secure the firearm, which he did.

Deputies arrested Campbell for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Domestic Battery, and Obstruction without Violence. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Upon release, Campbell will be transported to the Sheriff Pery Hall Inmate Detention Facility where she will be held without bond until her first appearance.

“This situation highlights the real-life dangers our deputies face every day, especially in domestic violence cases,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.  “Our deputies responded quickly and professionally to a very dangerous situation involving an armed individual refusing to comply. Thanks to their training and de-escalation tactics, this situation was safely resolved.”
