Alzheimer’s Resource Council of Flagler County (ARC) is offering free in-home care to qualifying Flagler County residents.
Founded in 2008 by Medwin Nazif and Terri Belletto, ARC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Flagler County residents affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other related memory disorders. Terri is currently the Executive Director of the Flagler County Free Clinic.
“If someone in Flagler County donates to an Alzheimer’s cause, I believe it should directly benefit someone local,” said Medwin Nazif, President of ARC.
In the past, ARC has provided Flagler County residents with support groups, sensory “toys”, memory screenings, workshops, and more. ARC has also partnered with local health-related companies to collect and deliver donations of comforts such as toiletries, clothing, and crafts to area nursing homes.
This year, ARC is partnering with Visiting Angels, a local Nurse Registry, for Deeds of Dignity: In-Home Support for Families in Need. Visiting Angels is offering their caregiver referral services free of charge. This allows ARC to direct all funding toward caregiver compensation. These home care hours offer much-needed respite for family caregivers.
“You cannot pour from an empty cup,” said Carolyn Mink, Client Liaison for Visiting Angels. “Caregiver burnout is real. I love being part of the solution that can help you find a balance between giving to others and prioritizing your own needs.”
To qualify for the temporary free in-home care, applicants must:
- Have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s
- Reside in Flagler County
- Lack of the financial means to cover the full cost of care
