By-Line: Julie Murphy, Flagler County Government

Flagler County Emergency Management announced today (Friday) that FEMA has opened a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Flagler County to provide one-on-one help to residents affected by Hurricane Milton. The recovery center is located in a bus at the northeast corner of the parking lot for the Kim C. Hammond Justice Center (courthouse) in Bunnell.

Disaster Recovery Centers are accessible to people with disabilities or access and functional needs and are equipped with assistive technology.

The Disaster Recovery Center is set up to assist residents with the following:

  • Apply for assistance, which may also be done at Apply for FEMA Assistance online or by phone at 1-800-621-3362.
  • Learn more about available disaster assistance programs.
  • Learn the status of a FEMA application (or by phone at 1-800-621-3362).
  • Understand any letters received from FEMA.
  • Find housing and rental assistance information.
  • Get answers to questions or resolve problems.
  • Get referrals to other agencies that may offer separate assistance programs.
  • Learn about Small Business Administration (SBA) programs.

“It is important to note that survivors do not need to visit a DRC to apply for assistance and are encouraged to apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by downloading the FEMA App,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “Additionally important to note, FEMA does not distribute cash at Disaster Recovery Centers.”

Kim C. Hammond Justice Center (northeast corner of the parking lot) is located at 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Building 1, Bunnell. The Disaster Recovery Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Thanksgiving, when it will be closed.

To find other center locations, go to fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and a Zip Code to 43362.

Again, homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov by using the FEMA App or by phone at 800-621-3362. Lines are open daily, and help is available in most languages. Those who use a relay service, captioned telephone, or other service should provide FEMA with the number for that service.
