On October 8, a woman went to check on her father at his home in Palm Coast. Once she came out, she saw a man, later identified as Cole McComb, inside her vehicle and armed with a shovel.

The victim stated McComb took her purse out of the vehicle and stole $400 from her wallet. McComb noticed the victim and took an aggressive stance while holding the shovel and then swung the shovel at her. He also told her to get away while calling her a derogatory name. The victim then fled in her vehicle to call the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO).

The victim told deputies that after she drove off, she saw McCombs drive away. Deputies spoke to the victim’s father, who said he heard screaming outside his home, and when he walked outside, he saw McComb running off with the victim’s purse, take out a “handful of cash,” swing a shovel at her before getting in a vehicle and driving away.

Through investigative means, McComb was located in the vehicle on North Ocean Shore Boulevard in Flagler Beach and conducted a felony stop on the vehicle. McComb was arrested for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon Without Intent to Kill, Burglary of a Conveyance (vehicle) – Unoccupied/Unarmed, and Petit Theft – Pocket Picking $100-$750. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and is being held with no bond.

“This guy thought he found an easy target of an unlocked car with a visible purse for a quick theft, but when he was confronted by the victim, he armed himself with a shovel and threatened her,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Our residents work too hard for their money for it to be stolen. Great job by our deputies in quickly apprehending him. It’s also a good reminder to always lock your car and never leave anything of value visible.”
