On Wednesday, January 24, around 2:45 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Squash Blossom Trail off Seminole Woods in Palm Coast after noticing large cracks in the windshield that obstructed the view of the driver.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Ja Corey Benjamin, 21 was observed switching from the driver’s seat to the back seat of the vehicle after pulling into a ditch along the roadway. His passenger, later identified as A’Onesty Perry, 23, had moved to the driver’s seat. Deputies approached the vehicle and noticed a strong smell of Cannabis.

Upon a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located a clear plastic bag containing approximately 8.3 grams of a white rock like substance and a digital scale with a white rock like substance smeared on it. In a presumptive test, both substances tested positive for Cocaine. Benjamin admitted to switching seats in the vehicle but denied ownership of the crack Cocaine.

Benjamin was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell, Possession of Marijuana (Under 20 Grams), and Driving With License Suspended. He is currently being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $6,000 bond.

Perry was also arrested and taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell, Possession of Marijuana (Under 20 Grams), and Permitting Any Unauthorized Person to Drive. He is currently being held on a $5,500 bond.

“Great job by Corporal Green for his attention to detail and seeing through these two poison peddlers’ little game of musical chairs during the traffic stop,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Let this be another warning, if you’re carrying or selling narcotics in Flagler County, you’ll find yourself like these two, spending time in the Green Roof Inn.”
