Students from across Flagler County gathered for the 2025–2026 Flagler County District Spelling Bee, an academic competition that brought together elementary and middle school spellers from public, charter, and private schools. The event was held with families, educators, and district leaders in attendance to recognize student achievement in spelling and literacy.

The program opened with welcoming remarks from Jamie Everage, the district’s secondary English Language Arts curriculum specialist, who introduced the purpose of the evening and acknowledged school leaders, teachers, literacy coaches, and families. Everage thanked parents and supporters, saying their encouragement helped students reach the district level. The audience then recited the Pledge of Allegiance together.

Students representing all five elementary schools, both middle schools, Imagine School at Town Center, and Christ the King Academy introduced themselves before the competition began. Officials for the bee were also introduced, including the pronouncer, judges, and record keepers. Rules were reviewed, explaining that spellers could ask for definitions, sentences, parts of speech, word origins, or alternate pronunciations before spelling.

The spelling bee began with a practice round, followed by multiple competitive rounds. Students spelled a wide range of words, from common vocabulary to more advanced terms such as “dexterity,” “auxiliary,” “ostracism,” and “welterweight.” As the rounds progressed, spellers were eliminated after misspelling words, narrowing the field to the final competitors.

After the final round, Sean Salvashon from Imagine School at Town Center was announced as the district champion. The runner-up and third-place finisher were also recognized. Medals were awarded, and all participants received applause for advancing from classroom, school, and grade-level competitions to the district stage.

The district champion will go on to represent Flagler County at the First Coast Regional Spelling Bee on February 27. Organizers closed the evening by thanking students, families, and staff for their support and participation, emphasizing the effort it took for each student to compete at the district level.
