The City of Bunnell is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on its Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board, with a deadline of March 20, 2026.
The city needs to fill an alternate member position on the board. The term for this seat runs through August 2027. When a regular board member is absent, the alternate member serves as a voting member.
To be eligible, applicants must either own property in the city or be a resident of the city, as required by Land Development Code Section 2-82. Only applications that meet the eligibility requirements will be presented to the City Commission for consideration.
The Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 PM. Board members serve three-year terms or the remainder of a vacated seat.
The board handles a variety of responsibilities related to land use and development in Bunnell. Members hear and decide appeals when someone claims there is an error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made in enforcing land development regulations. The board also serves as the local planning agency for the city.
Board members review matters referred to them and hold public hearings to make decisions or recommendations to the City Commission. They transmit written recommendations to appropriate governmental bodies and agencies as provided for in the Land Development Code. The board also recommends approval of internal procedures and changes to the Land Development Code or official future land use and zoning designations to the City Commission.
Additionally, board members ensure that applications coming before them are not approved until all requirements of the Land Development Code have been met, along with performing other duties lawfully assigned.
The City Commission will appoint an eligible volunteer from the submitted applications, with the appointment announced at a regularly scheduled City Commission meeting.
Applications are available on the city website at www.bunnellcity.us under Human Resources and Open Positions. Residents can also contact the City Clerk’s office at 386-437-7500, extension 5, or by email at kbates@bunnellcity.us. Completed applications should be submitted to the Community Development Department at acalderin@bunnellcity.us.
For questions about the operations and meetings of the board, residents can contact Adrian Calderin at 386-263-8809.
