The Palm Coast City Council has approved funding to add more than 120 new parking spaces at the Indian Trails Sports Complex to meet growing demand from sports programs and tournaments.

At its January 6, 2026 meeting, the City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing $1.545 million for the parking expansion project. The decision comes as expanded youth and adult sports programs, larger sports alliance rosters, and an increase in year-round regional tournaments have created a need for more parking at the facility.

The project will add a total of 127 new parking spaces. Of those, 93 will be asphalt spaces and 34 will be pervious spaces. The expansion is designed to reduce congestion during peak activity times. It will also improve the facility’s ability to host large community gatherings, including local church events, and provide a potential staging area for emergency response operations when needed.

“This is a big win not just for athletes, but for our community at large,” said James Hirst, City of Palm Coast Parks and Recreation Director. “Indian Trails Sports Complex brings together families, spectators, and visitors from across the region. By expanding parking, we’re improving access and safety, easing congestion during busy events, and supporting local businesses that benefit from tournaments and year-round programming at the complex.”

The City’s Public Works Department Special Projects Division will complete the construction in-house, with management provided by the Stormwater and Engineering Department’s Parks and Facilities Division. According to the City, using city crews instead of third-party contractors will result in significant savings for taxpayers while maintaining quality control and fiscal responsibility.

The project will be funded through the FY 2026 Recreation Impact Fee Fund, which is set aside to support infrastructure improvements that serve recreational growth and facility demand.

Construction is expected to begin later this fiscal year, with completion anticipated by June 2026. Residents can follow the progress by visiting palmcoast.gov/pcprogress or by visiting the City’s Capital Project Dashboard, here.
