Board member ends congressional campaign, citing redistricting uncertainty
Will Furry has announced he will seek re-election to the Flagler County School Board after suspending his campaign for U.S. Congress.
Furry cited the upcoming redistricting of Florida’s Congressional district map as a factor in his decision to return to the local race rather than continue pursuing federal office.
“There are many unknowns as to where final lines will be drawn. It is clear to me that it is more advantageous for a proven Republican to run for a seat I know we can keep red and protect our public schools from the radical left,” Furry said.
In announcing his re-election campaign, Furry pointed to accomplishments during his current term on the school board. He said the board streamlined the budget, reduced taxpayer waste, made services more efficient, and rebuilt reserve funds to $11 million. Furry also cited what he described as correcting the district’s trajectory away from state takeover, implementing staffing changes, restructuring the district’s legal representation, and achieving year-over-year academic improvements.
“When I was first elected, I promised to be accountable to taxpayers and serve the will of the people. I’m proud to say I delivered,” Furry said. “I will further my record of ensuring wins for Flagler Schools, and would be humbled and honored to earn the voters’ support for another term.”
Furry described himself as a Christian conservative leader committed to protecting constitutional rights, parental authority in education, and pro-student policies.
