Nearly 70 golfers and more than 20 volunteers gathered at Grand Haven Golf Club for Cedar Bridge Foundation’s 2025 Bridging the Gap Golf Tournament. The event marks what the Foundation believes is Flagler County’s first golf tournament created specifically to support people with autism and developmental disabilities.
The tournament raised money for Cedar Bridge Foundation, a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and related conditions. All proceeds will go toward the Foundation’s social and life-skills training programs, which help members build independence and connect with their community. “This tournament wasn’t just about golf; it was about building bridges of opportunity,” said Dr. Maria Dowling, Co-Founder of Cedar Bridge Foundation. “Every swing, sponsor, and volunteer helps us continue life-changing programs that promote independence and engagement.”

What Cedar Bridge Foundation Does
Cedar Bridge Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit started by two mothers of adults with special needs. The organization helps people with disabilities transition from high school into adult life through several programs. Cooking with Confidence teaches meal planning, food safety, and kitchen skills. The program gives members hands-on training for both everyday life and potential jobs. Social & Life Skills Workshops focus on communication, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. Members also participate in regular activities like bowling, fitness classes, movie nights, and themed events that help them make friends and stay active. The Foundation encourages community service as well.
Members volunteer across Flagler County, giving them a chance to contribute and feel a sense of purpose. “When the community opens doors, our members walk through them,” said Terrie Baker, Co-Founder. “From life and social skills to friendships and fitness, we equip people to gain independence and a strong sense of belonging.”
