Two-year department member recognized for mentorship and community service

The Flagler-Palm Coast Kiwanis Club has named Palm Coast Firefighter Paramedic Osvaldo “Ozzy” Sene as its 2025 Firefighter of the Year.

Sene joined the Palm Coast Fire Department two years ago and has become a valued member of the team through his work in professional development, community service, and mentoring young people.

Training and Certifications

During his two years with the department, Sene has completed several important training programs. He finished the paramedic program, the department’s driver/engineer training series, and multiple specialized rescue certifications.

These certifications prepare firefighters to handle complex emergency situations and operate different types of fire department equipment.

Junior Firefighter Program Leadership

Sene has played a key role in growing the department’s Junior Firefighter Program, which provides local youth with mentorship and hands-on experience in firefighting.

Under his leadership, Palm Coast’s junior firefighters competed in the Florida Cadet Games for the first time. The team earned trophies in two competitions while representing the community.

“Ozzy exemplifies what it means to be a Palm Coast firefighter—committed, compassionate, and community-minded,” said Palm Coast Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill. “His leadership in mentoring young people and his willingness to go above and beyond for his fellow firefighters truly embody the spirit of service that defines our department.”

Going Above and Beyond

Sene’s supervisors note his reliability and willingness to help whenever needed. He has adjusted his work schedule to ensure proper staffing for community events and emergency responses.

His positive attitude and teamwork have made an impact on both his fellow firefighters and the residents he serves.

Emergency Response Experience

Throughout his time with the department, Sene has responded to several challenging emergency calls. These include technical rescues, major structure fires, and life-saving medical interventions.

His supervisors say his professionalism and calm behavior during these emergencies show his dedication to protecting the Palm Coast community.

Recognition

The City of Palm Coast congratulated Sene on the honor and thanked the Flagler-Palm Coast Kiwanis Club for recognizing his service.
