A Flagler County cleaning service employee faces multiple theft charges after investigators say she stole jewelry and other items from clients’ homes and sold them at local pawnshops.

Kayla Conner, 38, of Bunnell, was arrested following a month-long investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say Conner took valuables from at least two homes while working for Alicia’s Cleaning Service in August.

The investigation started when a man reported that his recently deceased wife’s jewelry, driver’s license, and bank cards were missing after his home was cleaned. The victim also discovered someone had made unauthorized purchases using the stolen cards. A second homeowner reported jewelry missing around the same time.

Both victims told police that a new employee had recently cleaned their homes. Detectives traced the stolen items to local pawnshops, where they determined Conner had sold the property.

Conner was charged with multiple counts of grand theft from a dwelling, false verification of ownership to a secondhand dealer, dealing in stolen property, grand theft from a person over 65 years old, and violation of probation. She is being held without bond at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.

Records show Conner was on probation at the time of her arrest for previous grand theft and obstruction charges.

“Residents hire cleaning services to help make their homes cleaner, not to have their valuables stolen. Thanks to the quick work of our detectives, this thief is now behind bars where she belongs,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “We will continue working to return stolen property to the rightful owners.”

“When you hire a cleaning company, verify they conduct background checks on their employees and have insurance,” added Sheriff Staly.

Detectives are still trying to identify the owners of several pawned items. Anyone who believes they may be a victim after having their home cleaned by Conner should contact FCSO detectives at 386-313-4911.
