Two Arrested for Assault with Deadly Weapon at Bunnell Recovery Facility

Late Friday night, deputies responded to a weapons disturbance call at an addiction recovery facility on Guava Lane in Bunnell. During the investigation, deputies determined that two residents, Doreen Marcum, 39, and Gregory Sterner, 62, both of Bunnell, assaulted another resident at the facility while armed.

According to the victim, Marcum pulled a handgun from the holster on her waist and pointed it at his head after he took a gallon of water from the shared refrigerator inside the common area. During a verbal altercation, Marcum accused the victim of taking the water unlawfully and blocked his reentry into the building. Sterner, who witnessed the altercation, then pointed a stun gun at the victim’s face. To defuse the situation, the victim walked away and returned to his residence.

Deputies arrested Dorreen Marcum for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill. She was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where she was later released on a $5,000 bond.

Gregory Sterner was also arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $2,500 bond.

“Pulling out a gun and threatening someone during a verbal dispute is dangerous and has consequences,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Our deputies responded quickly to de-escalate the incident and ensure everyone’s safety. The male suspect has a lengthy criminal history with arrests across multiple states. One thing this suspect knows is If you choose violence or intimidation over resolution, you will find yourself checked into the Green Roof Inn.”

Palm Coast Woman Arrested for DUI

In the early morning hours on Sunday, deputies responded to a disturbance complaint of a woman in a white sedan wearing a yellow or neon shirt throwing items at a Flagler County fire truck on Parkview Drive in Palm Coast. Deputies located a vehicle and a woman matching this description and conducted a traffic stop. During the investigation, the driver, Rachel Gena, 49, of Palm Coast, became argumentative, showing signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelling of alcohol.

At this point, deputies conducted a field sobriety exercise, which Gena failed. Deputies arrested Gena for DUI and transported her to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where she was later released on a $1,000 bond.

“This drunk thought she could throw things at first responders without facing consequences,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “There is never an excuse to drink and drive or throw things at first responders at a scene. If you do, we will catch you and show you some new bars at the Green Roof Inn.”

Deltona Man Arrested for Armed Trespassing with Firearms

On Sunday afternoon, deputies responded to a side-by-side UTV rollover crash involving five occupants on State Road 11 in Bunnell. Upon arrival, two occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment while three others remained on scene.

During the investigation, deputies determined that Joshua Nelson, 26, of Deltona, was the owner of the side-by-side and that he had trespassed onto Relay Wildlife Management Area, a private property with multiple no trespassing signs prominently posted. During the investigation, deputies determined that Nelson was armed with a handgun, a rifle, and a shotgun when he trespassed on the property.

Deputies arrested Joshua Nelson for armed trespassing. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $2,500 bond.

“Trespassing on private property is illegal on its own, but bringing firearms takes it to the next level,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “If you ignore the law and jeopardize the safety of our community, we will arrest you and put you in the Green Roof Inn.”
