Flagler County evacuation order lifted, shelter to close

August 30, 2023 – Due to the more stable weather conditions expected for today, at 9 a.m. Flagler County officials rescinded the evacuation order issued yesterday afternoon for those living in mobile/manufactured homes, RVs and unsafe structure and have started the process of closing the shelter at Rymfire Elementary School. “We nevertheless urge residents to use caution,” Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said. “We will still be having some tropical storm-like conditions, but they are not as intense as initially anticipated.” The shelter will be closed as quickly as is reasonably possible to ensure a safe transition for evacuees. City Offices will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. This includes City Parks; no parks will be open on August 30th.  Essential operations will be staffed, but no offices will be open. City Solid Waste service is suspended for Wednesday, August 30th. There will be no residential recycling or commercial solid waste service. August 29, 2023 – Flagler County is closing all government offices including the Flagler County Public Library and Parks and Recreational facilities starting Wednesday, August 30 and will reopen on Thursday, August 31 – circumstances permitting – due to the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Idalia and the response required by county staff.
