Evacuation order lifted, shelter to close

November 10, 2022 – Flagler County officials shortly after noon rescinded the evacuation order for the barrier island and started the process of closing the shelter at Rymfire Elementary School as the strongest effects of Hurricane Nicole have subsided. “We nevertheless urge residents to use caution, particularly along the coastline, as the county recovers from the storm,” Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said. “There are some road closures on State Road A1A, as well as unsafe areas along our coastline, we urge everyone to remain off the barrier island.” There are road closures in the following locations: State Road A1A at…

Flagler County closes beach access points, dune walkovers for the duration of Subtropical Storm Nicole

November 8, 2022 – Flagler County Parks and Recreation is closing all its dune walkovers and beach access points – effective immediately – for safety reasons for the duration of Subtropical Storm Nicole. “We kindly ask for everyone to please stay clear of these access areas until they reopen them after the storm,” said County Administrator Heidi Petito. “We want everyone to be safe, and there are definitely going to be stronger winds and higher surf than what we are used to experiencing.” Officials have urged residents and businesses to prepare for tropical-storm-like impacts, including topping off emergency kits and having…

Flagler County continues sandbag availability at single location Tuesday

November 7, 2022 – Flagler County officials are continuing sandbag operations on the barrier island at a single location – Bay Drive Park – Tuesday as the area braces for Subtropical Storm Nicole, which will arrive later in the week. “Earlier today we asked everyone to make preparations and this will help people to do that,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “We know we are going to suffer impacts from this storm, and we want residents to be as prepared as they can be.” Residents are limited to 10 sandbags per household. November 7, 2022 – Flagler County officials urge all residents and businesses in Flagler County to make preparations for Tropical Storm like impacts from Subtropical Storm Nicole, including topping off emergency kits and having a destination in mind to go if evacuations are called for. This morning at 11am, NHC (National Hurricane Center) updated the current path and wind speed probabilities for Tropical Storm Ian. While Flagler County is too far away to make a for sure decision on what kind of weather severity we will see, residents should be watching. The NHC posts updates every six hours. Friday Update on Depression #9 in the Caribbean

Tropical Depression #9 is set to become a tropical storm sometime today or late tonight. It is currently entering the Gulf where the NHC is expecting it to make a turn to Florida. It is still days out, and tracks can make drastic changes. Remember not to panic, and monitor the track and cone as the days go on. We will be posting updates as the NHC releases them over the weekend.
