Retired St. Johns County Sheriff and St. Augustine Police Chief David Shoar today announced his strong endorsement of Charles Gambaro, Republican candidate for Florida’s 6th Congressional District, in the upcoming August 18, 2026, primary.

Sheriff Shoar, who served the people of St. Johns County with distinction for over 40 years, including 16 years at the Sheriff’s Office as elected Sheriff and 24 years with the St. Augustine Police Department Culminating as Chief of Police, praised Gambaro’s proven leadership, military service, and commitment to law and order.

In his endorsement, Sheriff Shoar stated:

“General Gambaro has served his community and his country with honor for over 26 years.  He has lived in our community for decades, understands the issues, and has the track record and courage to drive positive change on issues important to our residents.  General Gambaro is a highly decorated Combat Veteran who has led our troops in battle and has the unyielding support of law enforcement and first responders.  Charlie has my full endorsement, and I encourage St. Johns County residents and community leaders to vote for him on August 18, 2026.”

Charles Gambaro expressed gratitude for the endorsement:

“I am deeply humbled to receive the support of Sheriff David Shoar, a true legend and Patriot in Florida law enforcement. In addition to serving his community to Police Chief and Sheriff, David served his nation in uniform in the Florida Army National Guard, deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  Sheriff Shoar also served as President of the Florida Sheriff’s Association.  His decades of service and leadership are extremely impressive. Together, we will work to deliver results for our communities… stronger borders, safer neighborhoods, and a government that works for the people.”

This endorsement underscores growing momentum for Gambaro’s campaign among law enforcement leaders and conservatives in the district.
