On Friday evening, after conducting a felony traffic stop on a stolen vehicle from Volusia County, deputies arrested Douglas John Miller, 44, of Port Orange, for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and drug-related charges.
Miller was traveling eastbound on State Road 100 West in a stolen Budget rental truck when an FCSO deputy deployed Stop Sticks to disable the vehicle. During the investigation, Miller claimed to have rented the vehicle on March 17, 2025 and was using the vehicle to run his business. However, a representative from Budget Car Rental reported the vehicle stolen on April 25, 2025.
During the investigation, deputies located a handgun, a clear plastic bag containing .6 grams of methamphetamine, a cut straw, and two glass pipes inside the vehicle.

“When you rent a vehicle, you must return it within the agreed-upon time. Otherwise, it will be reported stolen, and we will arrest you and take you to the Green Roof Inn,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “We will not tolerate illegal drugs in Flagler County, either.”
Deputies arrested Miller for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $5,500 bond.

On Saturday, shortly after midnight, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call about a man, identified as Matthew Hunter, 63, of Palm Coast, attempting to break into a residence naked. According to the victim, she called 911 after she heard what sounded like a knife trying to cut through the lock on her front door.

“Attempting to break into a home without your britches is not an encounter you want to have with law enforcement,” said Sheriff Staly. “Doing so is bound to land you in the Green Roof Inn or dead by a homeowner protecting themselves from a lunatic.”
Hunter was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for Attempted Burglary, Exposure of Sex Organs, and Criminal Mischief. He was later released on a $12,000 bond.
