The Literary Lounge is a new concept being launched in Palm Coast by local business woman Yonette Turner and a local author, Raquel Herring. This new monthly event is a collaboration to help highlight the areas local authors, promote their work and create an atmosphere for literacy and reading. We sat down with Raquel and Yonette to talk about this group, the goals, the mission and everything in-between.
Yonette explained how the idea just sort of came together and worked itself out. Raquel and Yonette met back at the end of 2023, and after talking they noticed that everywhere they turned they were meeting authors everywhere they turned. The first event happened at GoodVibes Nutrition of Palm Coast in January. Three authors were highlighted at the event, which is free for authors and free for those wishing to attend the event.
Raquel explained, “People are writing stuff, they’re doing stuff, and I believe they deserve to be recognized for their hard work and for their accomplishments and writing a book. It’s not an easy task and not everybody’s using AI to make it happen. They’re really just using their stories and writing it down, and I would like it that people feel good to come and relax. Come be read to like we do here. You can come have a drink and just chill with a nutritious drink and just hear the stories and ask questions, getting to know personally the author, knowing their background, knowing their story. What motivated them to write this story, whether it’s fiction or it’s nonfiction.”
Yonette and Raquel are hosting their third Literary Lounge event this Saturday May 18th, from 1pm to 3pm at GoodVibes Nutrition of Palm Coast. You will be able to meet three local authors from Flagler County during this event.
I just discovered Literary Lounge on Facebook. I am an accomplished poet who has been searching for local places to share my work. I would love to read my poetry in this venue.
