Tuesday January 9th, 2024 – The Flagler County Planning and Land Development Board held their meeting at 5:30pm. Despite the weather, the board meeting went on as planned. The meeting kicked off with the election of a new chair. Mark Langello was nominated and voted in as the new chair of the Flagler County Planning and Land Development Board.
Upon meeting commencement, the board handled multiple issues including updates to plans for the Brookside project at Ormond Station, as well as the approval on an appeal regarding the replacement and repair of a gas station sign on US 1.
The Planning Board moved on to hear a request for a site plan approval for a new RV storage facility along Old Kings Rd, near Sugarmill, Halifax Plantation, and other developments. The property in question is zoned for Commercial 2; and is already being used as a storage facility for recreational vehicles. It is not currently being maintained. The developer stated that they plan to keep the buffer that is currently in existence, as well as fully fence the property in. The property would be gated, as well as under video surveillance.
Members of the public were in attendance, and spoke their opposition to the approval of this site plan, stating concerns like homeless seeking refuge there as they currently do, traffic, bus stop safety, among other things. Concluding public comment the developer attempted a rebuttal to resident concerns. Some members of the public did become rowdy, causing the County Attorney to advise the new chair he could excise those making disturbances in the meeting. Ultimately the board approved the applicant’s request 4-0, with only minor changes to the site plans, which did include a driveway apron, and additional buffers to keep the facility from sight.
