Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies made 14 arrests last weekend between 6 a.m. on Friday, September 8th, 2023, and 6 a.m. on Monday, September 11th, 2023. Over the weekend, deputies handled 792 calls for service and made 155 traffic stops.
“Deputies were busy this past weekend,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “A woman thought it was okay to bring her child to a resort in the middle of the night so she could engage in narcotic use and sexual activities. Unfortunately, her son was stuck alone in the room with the deceased male for several hours until she came back.”
Man Found Deceased, Woman Arrested for Child Abuse
On Sunday morning, FCSO deputies responded to the Hammock Beach resort in reference to CPR in progress on an unresponsive male.
A 60-year-old male, identified as Timothy Farinick, was then pronounced deceased by responding medical personnel. Various narcotics and drug paraphernalia were located in the resort room. The reporting party, identified as 32-year-old Amy Kemper, confirmed that drug activity ensued overnight. The FCSO Major Case Unit and Special Investigations Unit were then called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
While at the scene, it was revealed that Kemper’s 11-year-old son had been present in the room overnight while Kemper had used the narcotics with Farinick and while Kemp, Farinick and a third male adult engaged in sexual activities.
Kemper told deputies that she believed Farinick was snoring unusually when she left the property with the other male. Her child was still in the room with Farinick. They returned several hours later to find Farinick deceased, with the 11-year-old child still in the room.
DCF responded and took custody of the 11-year-old child. Kemper was arrested for Child Neglect Without Great Bodily Harm and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for booking. She is being held on $15,000 bond.
Fugitive Arrested Following Car Crash on I-95
On Friday morning, FCSO deputies responded to the scene of a vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of I-95, approximately 1 mile south of SR-100. Upon arrival, Deputy Dosio spoke with three of the individuals involved in the crash and asked for their IDs.
A male individual verbally identified himself under three different names and dates of birth, but none of the names he provided were located in a records search. He was arrested and taken to the SPHIDF for Providing False Information and Impeding an Investigation.
While at the jail, the male suspect was later positively identified as Nathail Harrington, 29. It was discovered he had an active Warrant out of Alachua County for Violation of Probation. He is still being held at the SPHIFD on a $1,000 bond.
Man Caught With Narcotics in Car
On Sunday morning, Deputy Somers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign on Old Kings Rd. While speaking with the driver, identified as 23-year-old Jarvis Jaden, Deputy Somers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
While conducting a probable cause search of Jarvis’s person, Deputy Somers located more than $6,000 in cash and two THC “dab” pens in his pocket. Four individually wrapped packages of THC wax were also found inside the vehicle’s glove box.
Jarvis was then arrested for Possession of Hashish and Possession of THC with the Intent to Distribute. He was transported to SPHIDF and has been released after posting a $3,500 bond.
