Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies made 14 arrests last weekend between 6am on Friday, August 25th, 2023, and 6am on Monday, August 28th, 2023. Over the weekend, deputies handled 935 calls for service and made 259 traffic stops.
“A warning to speeders on US-1, you can’t speed forever without getting caught,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “We WILL catch you. Also, this weekend was proof that driving around while smoking illegal pot is another great way to land you behind bars at the Green Roof Inn.”
Man Driving at Over 100 MPH Arrested with Narcotics
On Friday afternoon, while patrolling US-1, Sergeant Weaver observed a white truck and a black sedan traveling at over 100 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. Sgt. Weaver followed the vehicles southbound and observed them accelerating until they reached approximately 110 MPH. After notifying dispatch, Sgt. Weaver conducted a traffic stop on the white truck, and Detective Dalrymple stopped the black sedan that had turned onto Seminole Woods Pkwy.
While speaking with the driver, identified as 22-year-old Jordan Mercarter, Sgt. Weaver smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the truck. Inside the truck, Sgt. Weaver located three packages of possible THC, a cannabis roach, and rolling papers. At the time, Mercarter was also out on bond for two counts of Domestic Battery.
Mercarter was then arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Hashish, and Possession of Marijuana Under 20 Grams. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility (SPHIDF) and is being held on a $3,500 bond.
Four Men Arrested for Possession of Marijuana
On Friday night around 10 p.m., Detective Malta attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a dark-colored sedan traveling on I-95 near Mile Marker 284. However, the sedan continued to accelerate until finally stopping at MM 280.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Det. Malta smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the open passenger window and observed in plain view marijuana plant stems on the center console.
Det. Malta identified the driver as 19-year-old Kyrice Garcia, and the passengers as 19-year-old Devin Jones, 20-year-old Gavin Jones, and 25-year-old Dajhon McCloud. While searching the four men, deputies located a substance that tested presumptive positive for marijuana on all of them. Deputies also located a tan Glock handgun and a face mask in the vehicle.
All four occupants were arrested for Possession of Marijuana Under 20 Grams and transported to SPHIDF. McCloud did not have a bond set, but Garcia, G. Jones, and D. Jones posted their $500 bond.
Volusia County Fugitive Arrested by FCSO
On Sunday night, Deputy Torres conducted a traffic stop on a white sedan that failed to maintain their lane. Upon stopping the vehicle and checking the driver’s license, Deputy Torres discovered that Ryan Rogers’s license was suspended, and he had two active warrants from Volusia County for Violations of Parole.
When Deputy Torres attempted to arrest Rogers, he became physically aggressive but was later handcuffed. He also resisted while being placed in the back of a patrol car and trashed around in the backseat.
Rogers was arrested for two Out-of-County Warrants and Resisting an Officer Without Violence. He was transported to SPHIDF and is being held on a $6,000 bond.
“Smoking non-medical marijuana is still illegal in Florida, and resisting arrest when you are already a fugitive only gets you more charges,” added Sheriff Staly.
