Thursday, 8/10/2023, the FCSO captured an armed fugitive from Volusia County who was carrying multiple narcotics as well as drug paraphernalia.
At around 5am, Deputy Prevatt initiated a traffic stop on a silver sedan that was registered to Vern Westcott, a 34 year old male with a Volusia Warrant for Failure to Appear for Domestic Battery. Wescott immediately exited the vehicle after it came to a stop, allowing the deputy to see the drug paraphernalia plainly.
Several more units were called, and Westcott was taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle was done. The search successfully located 67 grams of Marijuana, a glass smoking pipe, a straw with white residue, a Glock 9mm handgun, ammunition and Alprazolam. Westcott was also found with $2,880 in cash.
Westcott was arrested for his Out-Of-County Warrant as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana (over 20 grams), POssession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Carrying a Weapon Used During the Commission of a Felony. Westcot was booked and later posted the $10,500 bond, allowing for his release.
“This wanted poison peddler made the mistake of coming to Flagler County,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Thankfully, Deputy Prevatt was keeping a close eye on our streets and recognized him and knew he had a warrant in Volusia County. We just have to keep reminding out-of-county criminals to stay the heck out of Flagler County or they will see the bars at the Green Roof Inn.”
