November 11, 2022 – Flagler County in coordination with the Property Appraiser’s Office has furnished the state of Florida with its initial damage assessment reports from Hurricane Nicole in the amount $23.7 million.
“There are six field teams with boots on the ground – a property appraiser paired with a building official – with tablets taking pictures and inputting data,” said Property Appraiser Jay Gardner. “We do this assessment as quickly as possible to help our residents get as much FEMA assistance as possible.”
FEMA has specific guidelines about how damages are classified: no damage, affected, minor, major, and destroyed. They can preliminarily be classified inaccessible, but teams will return to assess the damage.
“We assessed the barrier island this morning, because that’s where Flagler County saw the majority of the damages,” Gardner said. “We can update numbers later, but we try to get the bulk of the information collected today.”
FEMA may follow up in the next few days to perform its own assessment to ensure there is agreement with the county’s initial damage numbers.
Estimated countywide damage currently totals $23.7 million – of that $13.3 million was recorded in Flagler Beach, and $1.2 million in Beverly Beach. Damages in unincorporated Flagler County are estimated at $9.2 million.
No homes in Flagler County were destroyed. There were 299 homes were affected. Another 125 sustained minor damage, and 20 had major damage. Some 218 homes were flooded. These numbers will likely change.

At 49,900 cubic yards.
